Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)
Inquiry and classes of instruction begin each fall, and are designed to help those interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. They lead to full reception into the Catholic Church through completion of the three Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and First Holy Communion. This celebration happens each year at the Easter Vigil.
Who can attend?
If you are interested in learning more, please print the following form and return it to Damon Harris (RCIA Director) at class or the parish office. Please note that incomplete forms are accepted, as long as your contact info is complete.
Catechumens: Those not previously Baptized
“Catechumen” is the name the Church gives to those who are preparing to receive all three Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil.
Candidates: Those Previously Baptized
“Candidate” is the name the Church gives to those who have previously been baptized “in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit”, either in the Catholic or other Christian Church and are seeking Confirmation and Eucharist in full communion with the Catholic Church.
Infant Baptism (4 yrs. and under)
The Baptism program is a wonderful way to begin your spiritual journey with your child. The focus of our program at Visitation is celebrating your faith with your family and the Catholic faith community. I truly believe that no matter what Catholic school or church you belong to you can't be a complete person and celebrate the Catholic truths unless you attend church, receive the Eucharist, pray, go to Confession, and try to set a Catholic/Christian example. This does not mean perfection, but rather an effort on your part to be a better person. And that begins with Baptism.
If you are from another parish, or this is your first Baptism or you have not baptized a child in 7 or more years at Visitation, you are required to take the instruction classes. The class will consist of one session 3 ˝ hours long. We will cover the history of Baptism up to the present and will explore the reasons why Baptism is an important part of our faith based traditions and truths. A video will be presented and other informative information will be offered. We will also do a practice Baptism. Classes are scheduled once a month. Please contact the rectory for the schedule.
